PROFILE

Jo Morrey is a successful Lettings Branch Manager, Training Facilitator and HR Manager, with a keen interest in employment law.

Now in her 9th year at the prominent Wolverhampton based Letting Agency, Lawsons, Jo has experienced an advantageous viewpoint on both the external side of dealing with landlords and tenants, coupled with the internal needs of running a branch and managing a team of staff.

Day-to-day Jo is involved in residential Buy-To-Let and Property Acquisition and her on-going professional development, coupled with her many years of experience dealing with properties, landlords and tenants, holds her in good stead when tackling all the challenges that these daily activities continually bring.

Having personally ensured the smooth transition of over 2,800 tenancies, resulting in assisting Lawsons to earn £1.1 million, she has generated a staggering £8.4 million in rental income for Lawsons’ landlord clients.

During her time at Lawsons Jo, having personally invested in property herself, has been involved in the management of letting some 4,500 properties, handling over 1,800 Landlord clients. She has also been instrumental in Lawsons being fast tracked to their much sought after ‘Investors in People’ award in 2004.

Jo says, “Whilst leading the business, I’ve been most proud of playing a pivotal role in steering the company towards a 25% growth in income, whilst reducing the average void periods from 6 weeks to a very respectable 2 to 3 weeks.”

Jo says, “Whilst leading the business, I’ve been most proud of playing a pivotal role in steering the company towards a 25% growth in income, whilst reducing the average void periods from 6 weeks to a very respectable 2 to 3 weeks.”Jo, who is ARLA (Association of Residential Letting Agents) qualified as an individual member, with an ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) Level 3 Award in First Line Management, and is APIP (Association of Professional Inventory Providers) certified, has a keen interest in training and tuition which appears to stem from her mother who had a teaching career for over 29 years. This inevitably contributed towards Jo’s decision to head up Lawsons training division, which has enabled her to train staff to achieve multiple Level 1 & 2 ARLA accreditations. She is currently attending a senior management academy course.

Amongst Jo’s many activities, she is a committed networker who plays a key role in BNI (Business Networking International) as a lead visitor host. Her branch manager role sees her heavily involved is all aspects of the HR requirements, priding herself on her fair but firm approach towards her team. And with her passion for Lawsons, and the excellent service levels she knows she can offer, she’s quite a persuasive dealmaker when she sees an opportunity to bring a new landlord on board.

Jo says, “I’m looking forward to growing with the evolving external training programmes, especially as the lettings industry becomes more regulated and therefore more stringent.” Adding, “Unfortunately, over the years, I’ve heard so many awful ‘horror stories’ from Landlords, who approached Lawsons seeking guidance and advice, that I’ve been genuinely touched by the stressful experiences they’d endured and equally relieved when they engaged Lawsons to provide them with safe and experienced hands.”

In her spare time Jo, who is a committee member of WAM (The Wolverhampton Advanced Motorcyclists, part of the Institute of Advanced Motorists), commits her time to promoting road safety through voluntarily coaching motorcyclists to enable them to pass their Advanced Motorcyclist Tests. She also enjoys many other outdoor activities including canoeing, camping and walking. She loves nothing more than escaping from the city out to the countryside with her beloved German Shepherd dog, saying: “Walking the dog somewhere beautiful is by far my favorite way to relax.”
